Music Curriculum

This music curriculum is designed to build a love for performing and being on stage. Students of all ages perform a minimum of 4 times each year for a large audience. They also perform for each other on a regular basis in class. The entire school sings for weekly masses. There is a rotating schedule for 3rd through 8th grade to lead the school for these weekly
Masses.

Pre-K & Kindergarten:

Build a strong foundation using the Musikgarten Method: “The Cycle of Seasons.” Creative movement to high quality music of all genres, encouraging spontaneous language and poetry connecting to the seasons of the year, rhythm sticks, drums, scarves and singing to high quality folk music. Major and Minor Tonal Echoes using solfege and Duple/Triple Rhythmic Echoes using the Gordon Method’s syllables.

1st-2nd Grade:

Simple instruments, singing, creative movement & coloring to music of all genres/memorization of lyrics & poetry/intro to music composition.

  • 80% Grade Participation
  • 20% In Class Performance assignments

3rd Grade:

Recorder, singing, writing to music of all genres/memorization of lyrics & poetry/music composition & recording.

  • 80% Grade Participation
  • 15% In Class Performance assignments
  • 5 % At home practice log

4th Grade:

Ukulele, singing, writing to music of all genres/memorization of lyrics & poetry/music composition &
recording.

  • 80% Grade Participation
  • 15% In Class Performing assignments.
  • 5% At home practice log

5th-8th Grade:

2023 Introduction to beginning band/Instrumental-Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, singing, writing to music
of all genres/memorization of lyrics & poetry/music composition & recording.

  • 5% At home practice long

Chorus for all ages:

Proper vocal warm-up techniques for developing a well-trained singer/Age-appropriate solfege/sight-
reading.
High-quality, enjoyable repertoire for the students
