French Curriculum
“Vouloir, c’est pouvoir” / “Where there’s a will, there’s a way”
Bonjour!
We are fortunate at Holy Cross to offer French lessons to all students Pre-K to grade eight.
In fifth and sixth grade, we cover several themes to introduce them to the language while using a ludic approach. Listening to music, singing folk songs, videos, and engaging in fun cultural activities are all part of our lessons. The students learn while having fun and keeping a positive attitude toward their learning experience. 80% of Grade is in class participation, 15 % is in class testing/assessment & 5% is homework.
- Colors
- Alphabet
- Numbers
- Greetings and salutations
- Animals
- Body parts
- Holidays are amongst the themes covered.
- French Culture & Cuisine
As for grades 7 and 8, we introduce a more conversational approach. Students learn to pronounce the initial vocabulary and sentence structure required, followed by writing and improvisational conversation with classmates. The students get to experience and learn new vocabulary such as:
- Family
- Calendar, weather, and time
- Sports, activities, and hobbies
- Going to the market
- Housing
- Professions
- Proper sentence creation and usage
- French Culture & Cuisine
Lastly, our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have a textbook used to prepare them for high school needs. This curriculum is spread throughout their 2 years in 7th/8th grade. While they still review past notions, we work more diligently around real-world experiences, strategies, and culture-filled activities. 80% of Grade is in class participation, 15 % is in class testing/assessment & 5% is take homework.
We strive to boost their confidence while expanding their communication skills.
