The Holy Cross community is made up of not only students and faculty, but also parents. We encourage parents to become actively involved and you will often find parents helping in their child's classroom for a party or field trip.
Because we all know that parents live very busy lives, we have given some information below, extracted from the Student Handbook, which we hope will give answers to common questions such as how and when can I take my child out of school early, and what they can wear on a dress down day.
Absences
When a student is absent, parents are asked to phone the school before 9:00 am. A written note explaining the reasons for the absence should accompany the student and is to be given to the classroom teacher.*
Late Arrival / Early Dismissal
If a student arrives late (after 8:45 am) or must leave early (to attention doctors or dentist appointments for example) , the parent’s signature is required in the school office. *
* It is up to the student and parents to arrange to pick up any homework assignments for the days they are absent.
Medications
If your child has a prescription medication requirement, please send it to school in the original medicine container with the dosage instructions. All medications (over the counter or prescribed) must be given to the school office. Parents are required to fill out a Medical Authorization Form for any medication that their child requires.
Dress Down Days
A few times a month, usually on Friday, the students have a ‘Dress Down Day’ and are permitted to wear their casual clothes to school. Dress down clothing should not include shorts higher than mid-thigh length, halter tops, tank tops, exposed or bare shoulders or midriffs, and shirts or hats with offensive logos. This includes advertisements for alcohol, tobacco, or other inappropriate products.
Appropriate Dress for School Sponsored Events
The Holy Cross School dress code, either uniforms or dress down guidelines, is in effect at all school sponsored events (i.e. field trips, dances).
